The Music Six: Lily & Madeleine
Last month's The Weight of the Globe EP marked the official arrival of sisters Lily and Madeleine Jurkiewicz, two teenagers from Indianapolis whose tender Americana belies their years. With the help of Gentleman Caller's Kenny Childers and Wyoming's Asthmatic Kitty Records, these young ladies have begun to hone their precocious talent into something that will resonate with anyone with an ear for the likes of First Aid Kit or The Pierces.
When we hauled Lily and Madeleine in to the office to choose six of their favourite videos, their picks came as no surprise: they like the music that surrounds them now. Too young to have had time to immerse themselves in the past - if this is what they sound like now, imagine what they'll do once they've heard Patsy Cline or Bobbie Gentry. Until then, just enjoy them as they are.
This music video is part of a short film directed by Spike Jonze called Scenes From the Suburbs. It's brilliant! The video fits the mood of the song so well and creates characters that go along with the lyrics.
We love how glamorous this video is with the whole retro vibe as it parallels the JFK assassination. It's just cool and classic Lana!
'The Lion's Roar' is the first song by First Aid Kit we ever heard. Both the music video and the song are so beautiful. First Aid Kit inspired us to want to create our own music.
We just love the vibe of this song. It's so summery and fun! The dancers in the video are super cool too!
The video for 'The Cave' is so colorful and bright. It was filmed while they were touring in India and they just look so carefree and happy.
We like that this music video features dancers that fit with the lyrics of the song. Our favorite part is the routine of the ballet dancers at the end!
Lily & Madeleine's The Weight of the Globe EP is out now on Asthmatic Kitty Records.
