Camp Actor - This Is Not New York

Don’t expect anything so straight forward in this electronic release, and don’t expect anything camp either. Camp Actor has edges to cut yourself on, a pace to run you rampant and a syncopation to lose your way home.

A disorganized Chk Chk Chk (!!!) comes to mind whenever the commanding baritone voice echoes it’s way through the mentions of New York. The two bands share that electro punk style with the obvious influences of New Order and Depeche Mode, yet with blatant juxtaposes of New Romantic 80s pop, this mish mash takes you by surprise.

The remixes, however, seem to dampen the uniqueness of Camp Actor and do not bring anything new to the table.

However, This Is Not New York is just so all-over-the-place that it is just brilliant. When electro can keep a listeners’ attention with a cut and paste mosaic of twisted techno pieces as is here, you know you’ve found something special.
