Various - Back to Love 03.05

The latest compilation from Hed Kandi is a generally chilled trip back to the late 80s/ early 90s. Unfortunately, CD1 is rather tedious in its slavish devotion to middle of the road soulful house, even if it does include a couple of fine anthems in the shape of Inner City's Big Life and Jimi Polo's piano-soaked Better Days. CD2 fares better thanks to a more eclectic line-up which features Mr. Fingers (I assume a reference to his keyboard skills), the smooth Chante Moore, Neneh Cherry's Buffalo Stance, a trio of classic hip-hop tracks, and a run of pure disco. Although it won't do much to dispel the label's lightweight image, the latest Back to Love should make a decent, if retro, soundtrack to your sunbathing this summer.
