Various - Hit Me Baby One More Time
There is little point in arguing with cheese aficionados. For every person that never wants to hear Tiffany's I Think We're Alone Now again, there will be someone who - bizarrely - loves it like it was their child. That is, with a sort of blind, unconditional love. They just won't be told it's a horrible distillation of 80s evil into a four minute pop song.
Hit Me Baby One More Time, a tie-in with the Saturday night television show of the same name, is mainly comprised of tracks of this nature, tracks that most sane people would rather not be reminded of (bar those who'll take perverse pleasure in naming a few lost classics). Nothing here should require much of an introduction. The listing ranges in scope from 70s disco to forgotten 90s boyband, 911. But, perhaps unsurprisingly, the vast majority is from the 80s.
Just ask yourself, do we really need a Hue And Cry (Scottish white soul!) or T'Pau (power ballad!) career resurrection? And that's before we get to the thorny issue of Sinitta or Brother Beyond. If you answered 'no', give yourself a pat on the back. If you answered 'yes', go out, buy this CD, then complain about the lack of Wet Wet Wet.
