Introducing... Jenn D
Jenn D first hit our radars back in 2009 when she was part of the band Soft Toy Emergency, who unfortunately broke up a few months after our interview. Not that we jinxed them or anything. Since then Jenn has been working hard on solo material and her new single will finally debut next month. We thought it was time to get re-acquainted with the aspiring pop star to find out a bit more about her solo plans.
Just who is Jenn D?
Jenn D is me! A fun loving girl from up north with some big dreams.
How would you describe your sound?
Sassy, electronic pop. I would say my style is quite eclectic and I take influence from a lot of different things.
If you could rewind two years, would you have done anything different?
No, not a single thing. Two years ago was a really difficult time for me. I was feeling pretty low. I felt like I reached that point where I was really pushing myself and testing who I was as a person. I was making a decision whether I really wanted to go for it with my solo career. I had absolutely nothing, no money...but sometimes that's a good place to be because you have nothing to lose. It really gave me the drive to pick myself up.
Who are your inspirations and influences?
I take inspiration from all things not just musical ones. I get inspired by life in general, relationships, difficult situations, etc. Musically I love all sorts of music but I guess particular musical influences would inc. Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Nelly Furtado.
If you could pick one artist, living or passed, to work with, who would it be?
Mmm ... tough one. Debbie Harry I think.
You are going to live on a desert island for a year - which three albums do you take with you?
Daft Punk - Discovery
Gwen Stefani - Love Angel Music Baby
The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
What are your plans for the rest of 2012?
Releasing my first single, doing my first live show. A lot of firsts basically! I'm so excited about everything.
