Cornershop - Urban Turban
Seems like Cornershop have found themselves a niche that they're finally comfortable with. This is their third album since 2009's Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast and sees them content to further explore the low-key, electro-indie pop they've been mining following a fairly quiet decade previous.
Just about every track has a guest artist (although those outwith the C'shop inner circle may not have much idea who Katie, Lorraine or Amar are) but it never particularly upsets the overall flow. The largely simple beats tip the hat to early hip hop and that sense of making music for fun and for the beats hangs heavy. Fans may be disappointed that a good half of the tracks have already been issued as part of the band's singles club, but for those playing catch up, the Velvets groove of 'Something Makes You Feel Like' and the sing-song 'What Did The Hippie Have In His Bag' (featuring a local primary school) will bring a smile to the glummest of faces.
