Various - TF100
Originally released last year in a lavish book with double 10" vinyl, TF100 (the music, at least) is at last making the transfer to CD. Bringing together many of the artists that have made Tonefloat a label revered and loved, this is a fascinating and unique opportunity to witness them collaborating together. Unsurprisingly, the main exponent is workaholic Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree fame) who appears on most tracks with the likes of Dirk Serries, Sand Snowman and The Use Of Ashes to create a beautiful, relaxing record.
Despite the myriad of disparate partnerships and offerings, TF100 holds together surprisingly well. All seven tracks are loosely based around the premise of swelling ambient drones and gentle folk guitars, with everyone's signatures then slowly suffusing through. This is not a record for all occasions by any means, and the more impatient will find TF100 painfully boring; the supine nature of the music is rather delightful but somewhat soporific, in the best manner of speaking.
