Frànçois And The Atlas Mountains - E Volo Love
If you can get over the language barrier, Domino's latest signing is a perfectly rounded indie/folk hybrid album. Soft guitars and gentle harmonies are played at a rapid tempo whilst the quirky, suave vocals of Frànçois Marry serenade us in the language of love. Granted, I can’t speak French, so he could be singing about a trip to the corner shop but we'll stick with the romantic theory for now.
It’s not all French though, E Volo Love proves its worth as a bi-lingual album with gems such as 'Muddy Heart'. It makes the album more accessible from a lyrical perspective, but Marry's accent makes for a more awkward tone than when the songs are in his native tongue. Dreamy yet sophisticated, it is perhaps more luck than judgement that keeps these songs from being lost in translation, but just listen to the likes of ‘City Kiss’ and allow it to instantly transport you to a sleepy summers day. Sickeningly sweet at times, this is one for the couples among you, or those wishing they were.
