Bobby Hatfield 1940-2003
Once of the Righteous Brothers, singer Bobby Hatfield died yesterday aged 63. His body was found at 11pm UK time just thirty minutes before going onstage with his Righteous Brothers partner Bill Medley.
The Righteous Brothers had their first UK hit with You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' in 1965. The song's producer, Phil Spector, gave almost the entire song to Bill Medley to perform and when Bobby Hatfield asked what he was supposed to do while Medley was singing, Spector famously said, "You can take the money to the bank." According to Spector You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' is now the most played and programmed song in the history of music, beating Always by Irving Berlin and the Beatles' Yesterday.
The Righteous Brothers also had successes with Unchained Melody and Soul And Inspiration and earlier this year, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Righteous Brothers's manager David Cohen said to the press, "It's a shock, a real shock."
