The Music Fix J-pop Mix

More on

It's only been a few months since I was tasked to provide more Japanese music coverage at TMF, but already the first few pieces have proven to be some of the site's most-read articles of recent years. So as we head into 2012 the intention is to present more of the same - with the promise of throwing in some little treats along the way. Welcome, then, to what is hoped will become a monthly series dedicated to bringing you Japanese sounds, both old and new, from across the musical spectrum.

As it's the end of the year and with everybody getting into that festive spirit, digging out the classic tunes that we all know so well, I've decided to throw together a playlist which is a little different. Here you'll find a selection of my personal fave Christmas melodies from Japan: spanning 30 years of pop/rock evolution, we've everything from eighties solo powerhouses such as Tatsuro Yamashita and Yumi Matsutoya, to defining punk/rock act Shonen Knife; Seiyuu superstar Mayumi Iizuka and the Visual Kei kings themselves L'Arc~en~Ciel. I hope you enjoy the set - and the rest of the holidays - and we'll see you in the New Year.
