The House Of Love - Love You Too Much
Oh, the irony of a name. The House of Love became a house with no love and of personal devastation. Guy Chadwick and Terry Bickers, the Carl Barat and Peter Doherty of their day, fumbled with the expectations that ensued after their late 80s hits, Destroy the Heart and Shine On, and delved into manic depression, suicide attempts and nervous breakdowns.
And herald the second coming and rebirth of The House of Love some fifteen years later with this Valentine's single release, Love You Too Much. And if second chances were as common as bust ups and all sounded as sweet to the ears, The Libertines, The Smiths and the Stone Roses shouldn’t be far behind with new singles.
It's hard to forget, however, that so many reunions are forgettable, disappointing or just plain embarrassing. The House of Love, on the other hand, are reliving the rehashed 60s pop melodies over restless indie strummings, in their first return single Love You Too Much, as if they had never left.
A song reminding what a great songwriting combination they were and are now.
