American Werewolf Academy - Everything Is Alright So Far
Everything Is Alright So Far
marks the debut international release from Dallas trio, American Werewolf Academy. Don’t let the name fool you and instead prepare to receive an album of power ballads and and up beat RnB. Only kidding!: these werewolves deliver a raw, rocky pop-punk that demand fresh cobwebs to blow away.
Since forming in 2003 the band have inhabited a rock 'n pop Americana from the 60s and 70s: bubblegum, diners, late night bars and rumbles in storm drains. This world is one you’d recognise from cinema, rather than the real world, especially in its b-movie incarnations. As the band’s name suggests, they favour the fantastic over the mundane and who can fault them for that?
These songs adhere to the pop-punk template, not outstaying their welcome but jauntily capture the listener's attention as they blaze towards their conclusions. This isn’t to say that there isn’t light and shade here too. 'Goodnight, My Pumpkin Pie' borders on being country imbued twee whereas 'Beneath your Scapula Lie Dragon Wings' is more outburst than song. What unifies these songs is a sense of fun and a drive to convey this to an audience; to send them away happy. Again who can fault them for that?
