Damu - Unity
With so many talented young UK producers around at the moment, it must be hard to elbow your weigh to the front. Damu makes a good fist of trying.
Unity, his debut album, is a fizzy mix of garage, dubstep and chip-pop style electronica, but nothing that makes it stand out from the crowd. Perhaps best is 'Breathless', the vocal hooks and basement euphoria teasing and irresistable. Elsewhere, 'L.O.V.E.' incorporates steel drums, on the darker 'Maths Is Fine For Sum' there are whispers of 'ecstasy', and 'Ridin' The Hype' packs a punch with its rap vocal. While not an essential purchase, fans of leftfield electronica should find enough here to satisfy.
