Steak Number 8 - All Is Chaos
It appears that Steak Number Eight are a national success in their native Belgium, with TV, radio and major magazine appearances under their collective belt. All that with such an awful name too. It means there has got to be something there and judging by the band’s debut, it’s unlikely you’ll be disappointed if you’re into big old riffs and heavy atmospherics. The charmingly titled opening track ‘Dickhead’ is a case in point with its brilliantly distorted Mastodon-like groove and ghostly guitar harmonies whipping up a storm, while the soaring post-metal of ‘Black Fall’ cranks up the epic factor with backing chants during its eight minutes.
Some of the quieter moments, such as on ‘Track Into The Sky’, have the same subdued melodies and moody build-ups of Envy, marking the band out as a whole lot more interesting than your average heavy band. For a band so young, All Is Chaos sounds (on the whole) far beyond their years and with live shows gaining notoriety, these Belgian lads have a lot going for them. Impressive stuff.
