Tsuyoshi Domoto - NIPPON
Tsuyoshi Domoto is one of those ridiculously talented artists who can’t seem to put a step wrong. Establishing himself across all fields of the Japanese entertainment industry, the other half of J-pop sensation KinKi Kids has acted in numerous J-dramas, successful mainstream movies and is a published author and illustrator. At 32 years of age he’s showing no signs of slowing down, and it's a good thing too given his latest European solo project NIPPON.
Domoto practically throws all of his toys into the basket here with a slickly produced album that makes for a refreshing change of pace from the kind of pop he’s more synonymously known for. Aligning itself in a more spiritual manner, NIPPON is very much a mature sounding piece of work with an eclectic musical arrangement that perfectly compliments some beautiful vocals. Utilising funk, jazz and blues influences in tandem with traditional Japanese instruments and electronica, NIPPON is an unpredictable album that strikes a fine emotional chord through its snazzy marriage of classical and contemporary melodies.
