SWN Festival 2011 - Cardiff

Celebrating its fifth year of operation in 2011, the SWN Festival is a testament both to phenomenal local talent and the organisers' determination to put the city of Cardiff firmly on the musical map. Spread over eleven venues and with 170 acts to choose from you couldn't ask for more choice; just the occasional wish for superhero powers to get round and see more acts.

The line-up included bands from as far a field as Sweden such as Skull Defekts - who blended mixing decks, heavy rock and some of the funkiest dancing I've ever had the pleasure to view! - while old favourites like headliners Mark E. Smith's The Fall and North Walian gems The Joy Formidable equally blew the audience away with their sets.

The smaller local bands held their own at the festival, and made new fans along the way. Ones to watch include Cut Ribbons who've had support from Jen Long's Radio One show and are set to record before the end of the year, while South Wales' most soulful favourites Tiger, Please are on the brink of recording their second EP and put on a set to make any band proud.
