Black Widow - Sleeping With Demons
Black Widow were, according to the accompanying press release, the original black magic band, hailed alongside the masters Black Sabbath back in 1970. Now reunited for their first new album in nearly 40 years, Sleeping With Demons is something of an embarrassment. What the band have managed to cough up is an hour's worth of cheesy lyrics revolving around a terribly clichéd story, pathetically weak guitars, and oodles of dire 80s synths.
The highlight of Sleeping With Demons is in fact the bonus track 'Evil Clock', that despite continuing with the appalling lyrics, finally sees some bite in the Black Widow sound; the bass in particular has a wonderful low end crunch to it, whilst the guitar riffs are delivered with a menace befitting their name. It just leaves you scratching your head as to why they couldn't do this for the album proper.
