James Yorkston and The Athletes - Shipwreckers

"As we watched through the glass/ with towels on our backs/ the mischief in our minds, whispered in our ears/ warm in the body, and soaked to the bone/ grateful for the rain, for driving us back home."

The first single to be taken from Just Beyond The River, Shipwreckers deserves to be listened to properly. This is a ballad in the traditional sense, a song that tells a story. Here, it's of two lovers retreating indoors from a raging storm. The details - which show Yorkston as a fine lyricist - make this an earthily romantic, and rather touching, example of new folk.
