L-Vis 1990 - Neon Dreams
The debut album from L-Vis 1990 (otherwise known as Night Slugs label co-founder, James Connolly) seems a rather old-fashioned affair given where electronic music is currently at; there's little to anchor it in 2011. In spirit, it’s a close relative of Hercules And Love Affair’s disappointing second LP Blue Songs.
Neon Dreams is made up mainly of shimmering house tunes, often pleasant but way short of memorable. More likely to stick in the head are the catchy, 80s pop-influenced 'Play It Cool' and 'Tonight' (both featuring the vocals of Samantha Lim), the latter easily the most intense thing here. Providing you're not looking for innovation, Neon Dreams might just cut the mustard.
