Various - Amnesia Ibiza Anthems
With another Ibiza season in full swing, Amnesia, one of the island’s major clubs, puts its name to four discs of dance anthems. The tracks stretch back twenty years, with each disc covering a five year period. For those of a certain age, there’s little here that won't be familiar, yet it’s warming to think that this release may lead to some 18 year old discovering Joey Beltram’s 'Energy Flash' (Ecstasy! Ecstasy!) or Slam’s 'Positive Education'. Both still sound almost impossibly fresh. More up-to-date tunes such as The Egg’s 'Walking Away' (Tocadisco Remix), an essential listen if only to erase that David Guetta car crash version from the mind, the minimal/mainstream crossover of 'Body Language', or last year’s retro-house biggie 'Coma Cat', fare just as well. Bar the occasional stinker, such as Robert Miles’ plodding 'Children' or something from Laidback Luke & Steve Aoki which makes me feel older than being able to identify most of these tracks, it’s very agreeable: either as a history lesson or easy party fodder.
