Destroyer - Kaputt
Is quite astonishing how Destroyer has managed to give a modern day makeover to the wondrous 80s pop styling of the likes of Scritti Politti and Prefab Sprout, and somehow managed to produce an unfeasibly dull album chock full of anaemic songs that disappear from the memory as soon as they have finished. There is an initial jolt of excitement as 'Chinatown' opens proceedings pleasantly enough but the enjoyment provided by its lush arrangement and understated horns soon palls as song after song use exactly the same template and boredom is reached long before the interminable 'Bay Of Pigs' closes the album in typically dull style. If you like your music anodyne and bereft of any excitement then this is the perfect album for you; for everyone else it is one to avoid.
