The Brookes Brothers
The Brookes Brothers’ debut album practically defines high octane drum ‘n bass. It’s defiantly commercial and anthemic; there are enough lyrical hooks here to ensare some who might initially find the relentless pace a turn off. The biggest issue here is the Brothers sticking to a formula, with only the occasional deviation. 'Souvenir' is liquid d’n’b (tricksy beats and atmospheric washes) that’ll have older listeners thinking of Goldie, 'In Your Eyes' moves from reggae to dubstep, and 'Warcry' has a heavy Middle Eastern vibe. Still, when uncomplicatedly euphoric big room numbers such as 'Tear You Down' and 'Last Night' come so easily, it’s easy to understand why they play it safe. The Brookes Brothers have produced a summer treat for drum ‘n’ bass fans.
