Herman Dune - Strange Moosic
French folk-rock duo Herman Dune's new album is called Strange Moosic, but there isn’t really anything out of the ordinary on this latest record. Far from being unremarkable though, this is an inventive and pleasingly summery offering from the pair; from the sweet vocal harmonies of ‘Be A Doll And Take My Heart’ to the juddering indie-pop of ‘Be My Baby Tonight’. Midway through the album they even touch on country on the slightly more downbeat, but no less wonderful, ‘In The Long Long Run’ with its picked melodies and laid back acoustic guitar. The overall sound of the record is both warm and full, almost as though the instruments are hugging the listener in a big fuzzy, folky embrace. Herman Dune’s slightly twee musical formula may not be to everyone’s taste, but Strange Moosic is a fitting record for whiling away those summer afternoons.
