Txarly Brown Presents: Banda Achilifunk & Original Jazz Orquestra Taller de Musics - Gitano Real

The last in a critically acclaimed trilogy of releases exploring 'rumba-funk' and compiled by Txarly Brown finds him teaming up with Banda Achilifunk & Original Jazz Orquestra Taller De Musics. To the uninitiated, it sounds like something you might encounter on a Spanish holiday; Latin beats, flamenco guitar, mariachi horns and occasional shouts of ‘hah!’, all designed to get people moving and occasionally smooching on the dancefloor. The choice of cover versions – Jacko's 'Bad', on which vocal is replaced by organ, and 70s disco favourites 'Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now' and 'I Believe In Miracles' – also ensure it strays close to Señor Coconut pastiche. Except this is cheesy without ever being knowing or funny. Scratch that: the hip-hop incorporating 'Bombéalo' is too bizarre not to be a joke, right? Neck a couple of tequilas and a Sol and the appeal might seem a bit less puzzling.
