Bowling For Soup - Fishin' For Woos
Despite a return to form on their previous effort Sorry For Partyin', Bowling For Soup were dropped from their American label, Jive Records, before any singles had been released. This prompted a return to their own label, Que-So Records, for their eleventh effort Fishin' For Woos but whatever the record label, this is still exactly the same Bowling For Soup. Is that a bad thing? Not really, although that would depend on personal preference. Fishin' For Woos is packed to the brim with pop-punk hooks and irreverent charm that fans will lap up; take the nonsensical ending to 'Here's Your Freakin' Song' for example which just sees Jaret talk on whilst the song has finished - completely pointless, but sure to raise a smile. Like with their last effort though, they ensure that the humour is just an added bonus and doesn't become the focus. Lead single 'S-S-S-Saturday' and 'Friends Chicks Guitars' will instantly stick in your head, while acoustic closer 'Graduation Trip' is an effective love song that the band have become increasingly adept at. The addition of live favourite and cracking power ballad 'Guard My Heart' will prove to be the metaphorical cherry on top of an ultimately disposable, but undeniably entertaining, cake.
