Kyuss Lives - The HMV Forum, London
Following on from the successful tour of Garcia plays Kyuss, tonight original members, John Garcia (vocals), Nick Oliveri (bass) and Brant Bjork (drums) reunited (minus one Queens of The Stone Age member!) with Bruno Fevery on the guitar, under the new name Kyuss Lives to a second sell out date at the HMV Forum.
Due on stage at 9pm but arriving fashionably late in true rock star form, Bjork made his way to the stage first with a single spot light on him behind his kit to begin the drum intro for 'Spaceship Landing', with the rest of the band following and Garcia breaking out straight into song. It was clear the band were happy to be back playing together, and Fevery made the position his own up there and filled Josh Homme’s shoes.
Roughly half way through their set Garcia took to the microphone to introduce a very special guest. I had an idea of whom it was going to be due to having caught Garcia performing last year. Ben Ward from fellow Stoner Metal band Orange Goblin joined Garcia for 'Supa Scoopa' and 'Mighty Scoop' to end up blowing the crowd away. Oliveri was particularly entertaining to watch tonight, and at one point ended up wearing a Viking helmet that had been thrown onto the stage for a couple of songs. The band put on a great performance and left the fans wanting more. Fortunately, with a new album on the horizon they won’t be left waiting for long.
