The Atomic Bitchwax - The Local Fuzz
You have to worry a mite when the sole selling point of the new The Atomic Bitchwax album The Local Fuzz is a stupid gimmick in which the band has packed 50 riffs together into one forty minute track for no reason other than to see if they could. As it happens, The Local Fuzz is a pretty enjoyable slab of old school stoner rock, the hypnotic cyclical riffs coming thick and fast in an aural haze of more nefarious substances that flies by in a flash; images swim of long desert highways and American muscle cars racing through the barren wilderness. What the album lacks in a solid sense of direction is made up for in cohesion and wild abandon with the absurdity of the whole idea; no one is going to count the riffs or probably even pick out a favourite, but who cares? Turn on, lie back, and relax.
