The Bravery - Unconditional

The Bravery are a New York quintet and also one of the hottest bands around at the moment. This week they have re-released their ‘Unconditional’ EP and will be playing various UK dates this month to support it, including a four night residency at The Metro club in London.

The Bravery along with a host of other bands, will be hoping to make 2005 their year, much like Franz Ferdinand made 2004, theirs. ‘Unconditional’ starts off with some very immediate and catchy keyboards. These, along with some driving guitars lead into the singer’s pleading like vocals that are similar to Robert Smith’s from The Cure. Continuing in this vein for the rest of the song, it all makes for a memorably good tune.

‘No Brakes’ is much more of the same but replete with twirling hook-laden keyboards and shimmering guitar lines. Add a killer bass-line and The Bravery have created a sublime slab of early 80’s influenced electro-rock.

They're a band that are about to hit it big, so it will be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum going with more releases of this fine nature.
