Sam Kills Two - Pretty Ugly

Following up from their 2008 debut, Sam Kills Two return with an album of soft refrain. Songs gently, softly, slowly edge their way into your consciousness. They are filled with a melodic interweaving of soft vocals with understated percussion and chiming guitars. On one level, this is easy listening indie rock but, on another, this is finely crafted fare; you have to work pretty hard to come across as this effortless. If you want music to seize your attention with aural pyrotechnics then this probably isn’t an album for you. If, however, you’re looking to invest some time, to relax into and drift almost hypnotically along to a band who know they don’t need to push every button at once to get their musical message across, then you may have just found your next album.
