Jeff Beck - Rock 'n' Roll Party: Honouring Les Paul

Hot on the heels of his success at this year’s Grammy Awards, legendary guitarist Jeff Beck delivers this tribute to the late, great Les Paul. Recorded in 2010 at New York’s intimate Iridium Jazz Club, where Paul played a weekly residency for 14 years, it is a pleasant enough run through a selection of rock ‘n’ roll classics but just lacks a certain something. Beck and his guests (including Brian Setzer, Gary US Bonds and current rockabilly darling Imelda May) are obviously having a good time but, as is the problem with a lot of live albums, to get the full impact of the performance you probably need to have been there. It may be that the accompanying Blu-ray and DVD releases provide a better record of the gig but, as for the CD, this is a Rock ‘N Roll Party that doesn’t deliver any lasting memories.
