Various - Disco Discharge: Disco Fever USA
The lovingly curated series returns for a third set of releases that combine well loved tunes from the era with lost gems. For the hardcore, the packaging is irresistible. 22 tracks spread across two discs, authoritative sleeve notes from Alan Jones (author of the acclaimed Saturday Night Forever: The Story of Disco) and the inclusion of original rare or 12" mixes adds to the series' appeal. The likes of 'Boogie Wonderland' by Earth, Wind & Fire and 'Yester-me, Yester-you, Yesterday' by Boys Town Gang are unquestionable inclusions but the series works hard to avoid the obvious. If you want 'Saturday Night Fever', you know where to find it. If you're up for uncovering unexpected gems, Disco Discharge is all about re-investigating the backwaters of the scene. Hence the inclusion of an extended mix of 'Begin The Beguine' by Johny Mathis, Cissy(Mum of Whitney)Houston's glorious 'You're The Fire' and a camped-up reworking of 'If My Friends Could See Me Now' by Linda Clifford. Three accompanying releases complete this current instalment: Disco Discharge: Mondo Disco (5/10) is a similarly glittering collection of hits and obscurities, while Disco Discharge: Euro Beats (6/10) and Disco Discharge: Cruising the Beats (6/10) offer further evidence that serious re-evaluation of the genre is far from foolish.
