Murderdolls w/ Black Veil Brides, The Defiled - The HMV Forum, London

Tonight arriving at the Forum it was all about big hair, extravagant clothing (and to some extent not much of it) and hordes of teenagers queuing to see horror punks Murderdolls. Having been walking around Camden town earlier in the day it was easy to spot the kids who were up there for tonight’s shenanigans in Kentish Town.

The Defiled were tonight first on the bill, and with an early slot of 7:30pm the Forum wasn’t completely full, perhaps because of The Defiled’s regular shows around London. The band's energy and presence on stage is enjoyable, their sound (a kind of toughened-up Bullet For My Valentine) less so, but that’s just a personal preference.

Second support tonight was from American rockers Black Veil Brides, and despite an unfamiliarity with their catalogue, they proved pretty interesting, working the crowd and the photo pit. Their catchy songs got the kids singing along, and although I didn’t really understand the slight Kiss thing going on with the make-up and clothes, it was hard not to come away quietly impressed.

Finally it was time for Murderdolls, and the kids behind me were high on anticipation and impatience. Frontman Wednesday 13 was last on to the stage and begun with ‘Chapel of Blood’ off their latest album Women and Children Last followed by two more recent tracks. It was these that proved most interesting for me at least, although older tracks met with much approval from some in the crowd. The night was quite eventful, and the poor bouncers were definitely tested by the amount of crowd surfers. I don’t think anyone would have gone home disappointed, apart from perhaps the desperate groupies denied access backstage even after spending most of the set begging to the crew.
