TNT - A Farewell To Arms

Next year, Norwegian metallers TNT celebrate their thirtieth anniversary and although they have gone through many, many line-up changes in that time, the music is still most definitely stuck in a time when glam was still acceptable. The first ten tracks of A Farewell To Arms are a droll run-through of the most banal “hard rock” (a laughable tag from the label and entirely inaccurate here); opener ‘Engine’ must have the cheesiest, most dreadful lyrics this side of the fall of the Berlin Wall, whilst the rest of the album trundles along with boorish riffs and wailing vocals in a comatose state. And just when you thought that was the worst of it, the ballad ‘God Natt, Marie’ comes along to wrap the package up with a vomit-inducing sickly sweetness that would even be too much for the latest heartthrob boy band; the entire album reduced me to fits of giggles – it was either that or cry...
