Alesha Dixon - The Entertainer
Alesha Dixon is hot property: reality TV judge, stints as a presenter and various TV series and documentaries make for a busy, busy life. While it's admirable that she's found time to release another album, The Entertainer suffers from not having her full attention. Entirely forgettable, tame pop is the order of the day. She has the voice, but the vocals and tunes vary wildly from catchy to maudlin. Recent hit 'Drummer Boy' is a high-point; a marching song that might suffer from being a little repetitive but still has the balls to make a statement. It's unfortunate then, that when we get a track like this it's invariably followed by something far less exciting - current single 'Radio' is the perfect example, but there are many more. The singer proves she can turn her hand to all sorts - pop, hip hop, rap and even the odd retro synth driven sound, but here she fails to excel at anything. The Entertainer doesn't feature anything as sassy or cheeky as 'The Boy Does Nothin''; indeed The Alesha Show might have been less adventurous an album but at the same time it was more cohesive and had generally better tracks. She may be a grafter, but here Alesha fails in her mission to entertain.
