The Tallest Man On Earth - Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird EP

The rather unwieldy moniker taken on by Kristian Matsson is in fact a front for some delightfully stripped-back acoustic fare. Five indie-flecked folk numbers make up this enjoyable EP, the follow-up to April’s full-length effort The Wild Hunt, and a smooth, laid-back vibe courses through each of them. There are unmistakable echoes of a young Bob Dylan in Matsson’s rough-edged croon and the slightest smears of dirt on the tracks’ simple productions ably demonstrate that we are definitely not in nicey-nice singer-songwriter territory. The upbeat rhythm and yearning tone of ‘The Dreamer’ make it a stand-out, and some rich storytelling adds depth to the deceptively straightforward melodies of the likes of 'Tangle In This Trampled Wheel'. Sometimes the blues are just a bit lovely.
