Dead Letter Circus

This short mini-album from Australia’s Dead Letter Circus certainly doesn’t waste its time. Hitting you square in the face with the frantic drums and proggy riffs of ‘The Mile’, it’s immediately apparent that these guys mean the business. Injecting their songs with plenty of melody and a slight pop-edge gives them the appearance of a prog-rock Incubus, especially with the considerable talents of vocalist Kim Benzie. Each song has a sense of real urgency, with ‘Are We Closer’ bringing in some big guitars and subtle swirls of atmospherics to keep things exciting; while closing track ‘Alien’ brings in dark electronics, post-rock guitar squall and a soaring chorus to boot. With the band set to support Muse in December, these guys are surely headed for big things.
