Senses Fail - The Fire
Senses Fail seem to have developed the right mix of metal, pop-punk and stadium-rock on their fourth album The Fire. The opening title track has a soaring melodic chorus, brutal breakdowns and some big riffs in its three and a half minutes; and this is pretty much the formula they stick to for the remainder of the record. Buddy Nielsen’s vocals may fall on the wrong side of that trademark ‘emo’ nasally whine on ‘Saint Anthony’ and ‘Lifeboats’, but there’s no doubting the power and passion in ‘New Year’s Eve’ and it’s these heavier tracks where the band really shines through: nice crunchy riffs and a more than formidable roar that would make You Me At Six shit their pants. Conclusion: less whining, more ferocious shouting.
