Introducing... Spotlight Kid
Chris Davies from up-and-comers Spotlight Kid took time out from working on the band's album to talk to us about the band, his influences and his dream team of collaborators.
What's your earliest musical memory?
My gran gave me enough money to buy one album while out shopping, so I bought the Flash Gordon soundtrack by Queen, probably because I'd seen the film trailer - loved it and played it to death.
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
Can's Jaki Leibezeit and Mitch Mitchell on drums ( always good to have two drummers around!) Swervdriver's guitars, Feist or Lush on vocals with Curve's Dean Garcia on bass.
You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who do you compare yourself to?
Beautiful melodies coated in a modern sonic psychedelic explosion... If that doesn't make sense how about M83 meets Can and Swervedriver?
You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which three albums do you take with you?
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People / Spiritualized - Ladies & Gentlemen / The Cure - Disintegration
If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?
Usher - OMG ( I've never listened to it, but I know why it's on there...)
What sets you apart from the rest?
We can blow any band out of the water with sheer volume but we've got songs, when most bands don't.
What is next for Spotlight Kid?
1st November sees us release a limited 7'' single 'All is Real'/'April' - it'll be a download as well, but the [physical] single is the one to have. We are also heading back to Purple Studios in Norwich, which is a converted church to record the album. We gonna record it live in two days. Wish us luck!
