Introducing... Van Go Lion
Electropop and synth duo, Van Go Lion are otherwise known as Amy and Josh. They're busy locked away in their living room-based studio working on their debut album, but Amy was temporarily released from confinement to introduce the band to you, our wonderful TMF readers...
What's your earliest musical memory?
Standing by a bathtub singing along to Stevie Wonder’s “Part-Time Lover”. I must have been four or five at the time. Do you know what that song's about? Very appropriate...
If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?
I'll go with people who are living: Prince, Jack White, Bright Light Bright Light, Pink and Calvin Harris, although I would just stand there drooling and making nonsensical noises.
You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who do you compare yourself to?
Little Boots, La Roux or Madonna during the 'Like a Virgin' years.
You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which three albums do you take with you?
Purple Rain, Sweet Baby James and The Fame Monster. Oh, and I'm sneaking in a Billy Joel Greatest Hits too. Oh, and Tragic Kingdom! That's the hardest question ever!
If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?
If by “embarrassing” you mean “awesome,” then I’d have to say “It’s Gonna Be Me” by 'N Sync. Or "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News. I agree with Huey.
What sets you apart from the rest?
We make these songs in Josh's living room and fund everything ourselves. Also, it's pretty cool that we take Josh's classical piano pieces and turn them into electronic synth parts!
What is next for Van Go Lion?
Releasing the debut album, playing shows to support the new material and just getting the music out there. And connecting with people who enjoy our music and electronic/pop music in general.
Amy was kind enough to share a few tracks with us. We've picked our favourite in 'Sugarblush' for you to have a listen to below. If the whole album keeps up to the standard we've heard then it's going to be very well received at TMF Towers. Find out more about the band on MySpace...
