The Mutts

It's such an obvious rock 'n' roll name that you may expected it to have been used before. (And, indeed, it has.) This Brighton four-piece certainly do kick ass, and these songs are captured in an unpolished way which suits the material. If the likes of Shark is reminiscent of The Stooges, Neon Life has perhaps more of a bluesy feel. There's a tonne of energy here - from the way the drums are bashed to singer Chris Murtagh's growl (you're not going to mistaken him for that bloke from Keane) -, but also the sense that there's not much new. Still, few people held that against The Strokes...
