65daysofstatic - Heavy Sky EP

Six months after the release of We Were Exploding Anyway, 65daysofstatic treat us to an EP of mostly brand new songs in the shape of the Heavy Sky EP. The band have been perfecting their unique blend of thumping electronica and soaring post-rock, and this EP seems to break down those elements for the listener. Headed up by a four minute edit of album track ‘Tiger Girl’, a piece which did suffer slightly from being too lengthy, this is an impressive little collection. Many bands use EPs as a way to get rid of lesser tracks, but here we get a selection of tunes which are great additions to anyone’s collection: ‘Sawtooth Rising’ sees the band exploring a more rave-heavy side, while ‘The Wrong Shape’ seems to be a close sibling of ‘Dance Dance Dance’ with its steady build-up of percussion, synths and echoing guitar. The dissonant noise of aptly titled ‘Guitar Cascades’ rounds off a welcome to addition to the 65days canon.
