Lacuna Coil - The Garage, London

Last seen at this year's Sonisphere Festival where they gave a great performance, tonight's show at the more intimate Garage promised much and there was a great buzz in the crowd pre-show. With the lights down, the band arrived one by one with vocalist Cristina Scabbia arriving last to massed cheering before the band launched into a song from their most recent Shallow Life album 'Underdog', swiftly followed by an older song, 'Honeymoon Suite'.

The combination of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro’s voices is a splendid blend of rough and smooth, and their chemistry and interaction on stage just adds to the performance. As their set continues, the fans are treated to songs from their across their decade-long year career, and everyone goes crazy when fan-favourite 'Closer' is performed, the band struggling to be heard over the noise of the crowd!

Throughout the evening, they thank the fans for being there, and thank London for having them. Without even having to mention their next song's title, and literally just mentioning Dépêche Mode everyone knew what was coming, and Cristina wanted help from the crowd to sing the chorus, which people were more then willing to do.

The night ended with a really great set of songs for their encore, and the whole night offered a career-spanning selection of their particular brand of goth rock. Lacuna Coil are a fine unit and in Scabbia have a front-person of considerable charisma and talent.
