Introducing... Lost?

Throughout October we're taking a look at some up-and-coming bands and artists we think will be making the airwaves quake in the coming year.

Lost? are a four-piece indie rock band. Singer (and closet Miley Cyrus fan), Peter Bilton, is has agreed to go under the spotlight...

What are your earliest musical memories?

I always remember in the early 90s when I was a kid going on holidays with my parents and hearing 'Sacrifice' by Elton John and that is the first song I remember really liking. Then to be honest music wasn't a huge interest of mine until I was at a party during high school and I heard a song in the background. I literally just stood silent and listened to this song because I'd never heard anything like it. That song turned out to be 'Basket Case' by Green Day, so I bought all of their records and that lead me to buying a Blink 182 album and as soon as I heard Blink I was addicted to that particular style of music. I think within a month of hearing those songs I had my first guitar and started writing.

If you could hold a recording session with any five artists, who would you choose?

I'd actually love to get a mix of all of my different tastes of music. Working with Timbaland I think would be a huge lesson in how to write a great modern pop song. But I'd also love to work with Tom Delonge, Hayley Williams, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Then I'd love to work with an acoustic artist like Joseph Arthur. I think to write a great acoustic song is such a talent, because it's literally a guitar, and a voice. If a song can sound great that way, in its purest form, you know it's a great track!

You want to describe your music to a stranger on the street, who do you compare yourself to?

I think the easiest option is Blink 182. We all have such different tastes in music in this band, and I think when that all comes together it's what makes me love the songs we write because things that I wouldn't necessarily think of are obvious to one of the other guys. But one band that we all look up to and are pretty much the reason we started this band is Blink 182 and I think you can hear that in our songs.

You are going to live on a desert island for a year, which three albums do you take with you?

I would take 'Take Off Your Pants And Jacket' by Blink 182, '30 Number 1 Hits' that Elvis Presley album that came out, and 'Love Like This' by The Summer Set. They're all albums that are timeless to me, and there's not a track on any of them that I'd skip!

If we were to look at your MP3 player, what is the most embarrassing track or album that we'd find?

Probably some Miley Cyrus. It's not the most masculine thing for a guy to have on his mp3 player, but I appreciate some of the melodies on those songs, and the production is so so good, you can really tell that a lot of money has gone into her.

What sets you apart from the rest?

I think that between us our music tastes cover such a wide scope, that our music style isn't limited. We would never stop writing a song if it's good just because 'it doesn't sound like us'. I like to think that our music takes the best from every genre of music we love and it puts it together in such a way that it makes a great song. It's like our impression of all of our favourite artists collaborating.

What is next for Lost??

We've got some exciting things coming up, the video for the first single from our record 'DAMN! Baby' is coming out next month followed by some touring around the UK throughout winter. Then we're aiming for some Europe dates in Spring 2011 and we're heading our to the USA for two months next summer to tour and promote ourselves to a brand new audience which we're all really excited for. Beyond that who knows what the future holds!
