Cindytalk - Up Here In The Clouds

Gordon Sharp returns under his Cindytalk guise with Up Here In The Clouds, a record that seems to tread more in the direction of labelmate Fennesz with its blissful ambience and subtle electronic touches. From the off this is a sparse and cold record and while not going for the oppresive noise of previous releases, it does create a sense of uneasiness which, when listened to in the dark, is quite unsettling. Even when it does explore slightly more dense white noise drones as on 'Hollow Stare', there's an eerie serene-like feel to the music which both relaxes and makes you tense. Vinyl crackle, industrial sweeps of noise and delicate beeping melodies make up 'Multiple Landings' before the title track closes the album with a playful synth reverberating melody which, in a strange way, washes those feelings of uneasiness all away. Another inventive and brilliant release from Editions Mego.
