Elliot Minor - O2 Islington Academy

Upon arrival at tonight's venue it was clear that, although it was a school night, many of Elliot Minor's excitable fans had dragged their parents along for the experience. Arriving on stage at 9:15 to the Universal Studios theme, it was hard to ignore the excitement of the rows of - mostly - girls behind me who, after a quick welcome, were keen to sing along to every word as the band tore through a selection of classic noughties rock tracks from their back catalogue.

Dismissed by some as the archetypal MySpace band following their McFly support back in 2006, they at least know their audience and know how put on a show, lead singer Alex Davies working the crowd, his band keeping energy levels high, while he held court front and centre. A planned acoustic album for later this year will be a real gear change from the live environment.

Islington Academy may be a small venue, but tonight EM packed a punch filled with energy and excitement and their still-dedicated fanbase went home happy, fuelled with new stories and memories to swap in the schoolyard.
