InMe - Phoenix: The Best Of
Since 2003 debut Overgrown Eden introduced a homegrown rock band to rival the glut of nu-metal and emo bands making teens cry, InMe have released four studio albums. This might come as a surprise what with the releases flying well beneath the radar for a band that can make such a big noise, but their new best of collection Phoenix aims to remind listeners what they might have been missing. While the band's musical output has never exactly reinvented the wheel, the stabilisers are off and it's safe to say they are a solid rock outfit. Their most original feature remains lead singer Dave McPherson's impassioned vocal style which is immediately recognisable and combines equal parts grit and drama. Occasionally, things can get a little 'screamy' for my tastes but tracks like 'Crushed Like Fruit' and 'Faster the Chase' transport me back to a time when all my mates wore a little too much black and sweat bands on the wrist were the 'in' accessory. As a cherry on top, the four new tracks are worth a punt too.
