Aias - A La Piscina
The odd thing about Catalonian act Aias is that you initially think they're singing in Japanese. The fact that they specialise in lo-fi girl pop a la Shonen Knife only adds to the confusion. And this really is as simplistic as t' Knife at their most basic. Some might call it charming: the sing-songy melodies, the occasional parps of brass ('Mon Inventant') but the reality is more mundane - and boring. 'Una Setmana Sincera' might lift a snatch of melody from The Ramones' 'I Wanna Be Sedated' but this is just soporiphic. No urgency, no frustration, no fire. In fact nothing that real pop music should have in spades.
