Various - Pacha Pure Dance

Thankfully Pacha Pure Dance isn’t entirely reflective of the state of dance music in 2010; it may not even be reflective of the music that is played in Pacha - at least I hope it's not. The first two discs, a mix of current and forthcoming releases, are hard to get enthused about, a good chunk of them (overly) familiar from daytime radio. There are a few gems: Tensnake’s 'Coma Cat', Deadmau5’s 'Strobe', remixes of The Chemical Brothers and (gasp!) Kylie. However, these sit alongside the horrific easy-listening trance of 'Tarantella', disappointing remixes of Gorillaz and Goldfrapp, and a dance mangling of Bat For Lashes’ 'Daniel'. Surprisingly, the biggest incentive to buy this is the third disc, a mix of classic house tunes with new vocalists; including passable takes on the likes of 'Touch Me' and 'Perfect Motion', it’s a step up from those piped cover versions you hear while wandering around Clinton Cards. If they lead you back to the originals, all the better.
