Autopsy - The Tomb Within

After a couple of tentative steps following the reissue of their seminal debut album, gore legends Autopsy are well and truly back now with this 20 minute trip through the putrefied and bleeding delight that is The Tomb Within. This is still very much death metal steeped in the finest late 80s tradition, but has embraced the modern times to produce a fuller, richer sound that is meatier and heavier than first time around. The thick, weighty riffs and bombastic, explosive drums bulldoze through the brain at a furious pace as the likes of ‘My Corpse Will Rise’ and ‘Human Genocide’ remind us all why Autopsy are so revered. The comparative dirge of final track ‘Mutant Village’ is the band at their sickeningly best as the music draws all too vivid images of rotting corpses and festering remains, before it all explodes in a gooey mess of triumphant, deathly ecstasy.
