2muchachos - Formanta
Shoegaze isn't meant to jump out at you; it is not music to come out like a leaping tiger and grab you by the throat but it should still do something to get your attention. Sadly Formanta from Russian electronica band 2muchachos doesn't really achieve this. The ten tunes that fill the album are indistinguishable from one another and, while inoffensive and pretty enough at times, are fairly lifeless, empty and lacking in any kind of soul. The edgy 'Polyethylene Tree' has interesting moments as does 'Adelaida', the gentle acoustic guitar adding a touch of softness to the jarring electronic beats, but songs like the monotonous 'Dreaming Girl' and 'Free Floating' go on too long without actually going anywhere. Formanta is pleasant enough to have softly playing in the background but hardly something you'll want to sit down and listen to.
